The presence of Escherichia coli in water is a critical indicator of fecal contamination that represents a significant risk to public health, especially due to failures in sanitation systems. Therefore, the objective of the study was to evaluate the presence or absence of this bacterium in household water reservoirs in the Tendales parish head of the El Guabo canton. Methodologically, the study was of a descriptive level and mixed design by applying a stratified biphasic random sampling whose first stage consisted of the segmentation of 5 sectors of the area. The first selection of samples consisted of 75 households to know their water sanitary care habits. The second selection was of 5 households from each sector for a total of 25 samples in order to analyze water quality under the Ecuadorian Technical Standard INEN 2169:98. The results showed that only 40% of those surveyed boil their water before drinking it and use cisterns in their homes, the rest of the inhabitants do not; also the clinical data showed that 41.3% of the sector's residents had gastrointestinal problems, 25.3% suffered from diarrhea and 14. 7% suffered from intestinal parasitosis; however, the microbiological analysis of the water determined the absence of the battery, concluding that the method implemented determined that the water is fit to be consumed and also that the diseases presented by the citizens are not associated with its use in the place studied
