Takotsubo syndrome: a comprehensive approach to a female case at Hospital Obrero N° 2, CochabambaContenido principal del artículo
Takotsubo Syndrome (TTS), or broken heart syndrome, is a stress-induced transient cardiomyopathy, described in Japan in the 1990s. It presents with symptoms that mimic an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and ST segment elevation, but without the presence of obstructive coronary artery disease. Case presentation: This is an 84-year-old woman who, after orthopedic surgery, suffered severe bradycardia, altered consciousness, and electrocardiographic changes suggestive of AMI. A coronary angiography ruled out obstructions, and a ventriculogram revealed the characteristic "Japanese vase" image (the shape of the heart with TTS), confirming the diagnosis. The patient recovered favorably with intensive management. STT is crucial to consider in postmenopausal women with heart attack symptoms. Conclusion: Timely diagnosis allows conservative treatment and complete recovery of ventricular function.
